Role-playing Guidelines Empty
PostSubject: Role-playing Guidelines   Role-playing Guidelines EmptyTue Jul 07, 2009 4:13 pm

These are the general boundaries and recommendations when it comes to role-playing within this forum. Please, we ask you to follow these formats for the ease of reading and understanding role-playing posts. Failure to comply may result in a warning, deletion of your RPC, removal of stats, and/or a ban.

Terms

1. RP: Short for "role-play."
2. RPC: Short for "role-playing character."
3. OOC: Short for "Out of character." This is when you are not RPing. Please put parenthesis around any OOC when in a role-playing area.
4. IC: Short of "In character." This essentially means you are role-playing.

General RP Guidelines

1. No "God-modding." God-modding includes, but is not limited to:
- Controlling another person's RPC. This includes, but is not limited to; mind control, complete hypnosis, or claiming their actions.
- Killing another person's RPC without their permission or the permission of an Admin. This rule is absolute, however, when there is a major difference in stats, the weaker person will usually be allowed to be killed. So we recommend you do not fight out of your own league.
- Auto-hitting. This means claiming that you hit your opponent, without giving them the chance to block or dodge it. For example: "Jason hit Ryan in the ribs with his hammer." The correct way of doing this is to only state the action you intent, like: "Jason swung his hammer to try to hit Ryan's ribs." There are of course other ways to state that, but that is a general example.
- Being 'more powerful' than your RPC really is. Your stats cannot be ignored! People with much greater stats can, and most likely will, win in a fight/competition. Strategy can compensate, but only to an extent.
- Weapons that are over-powered. For example, a 10 ft. Great Sword made of steel won't be easy to lift. Humans are allowed to have guns, but please, be reasonable. No rocket launchers, lasers, nuclear weapons and the like. Pistols are advised, and almost always allowed. Rifles are as well, but automatic weapons are pushing the limits.

2. No "Meta-gaming." This is when your character possession knowledge it did not learn within a RP. For example, if you know the enemy is planning to attack your school, you cannot just suddenly start getting ready for it. Your character has to learn of the attack for itself.

3. Write in a 3rd person story format. For example:
"He peered over the edge of the pit with a blank expression, and simply looked down so he could measure the distance. I could jump down, but that seems like too much effort, he thought lazily. After a few seconds, he lifted his head a little to observe the current occupant of the pit. The man seemed to be in the process of cleaving rocks in two, which caused Azuras to tilt his head, raise an eyebrow, and grin. Time to meet one of the others, then. His eyes cast casually around the edges in their search for an alternate route.
"Hey, having fun there?" Azuras said as he slid leisurely down the side of the pit, having found a wall with a slight angle that would allow such a performance. His shoes ground across the rocky terrain as he descended, and the unadorned sheath of his katana skipped now and then over occasional outcroppings of stone that sprang out from face the wall. When he neared the bottom he bent his knees in preparation, then leapt off the wall and came to a sliding stop several yards away from the other man."
- Show thoughts in italics.
- Show speech using quotation marks.
- Unless thinking/speaking, use things like him, his, her, hers, it, its, them, theirs they, etc, instead of me, I, mine.

4. Do not edit an rp post after it has been replied to. You may edit it for a typo, but you may not change your actions, or any other major details.
